The Leadership Playbook Most Executives Read Once and Shelve

Updated: Aug 26

Most leadership books are written to be read cover to cover, once, and then referenced occasionally when someone remembers they own it. That's a reasonable way to write a book. It's a bad way to build something an executive actually reaches for during a budget season, a personnel crisis, or a board presentation that's due in two hours.

Built to be worked, not read

The ApexLead Executive Leadership Toolkit is organized as twelve stand-alone playbooks, one for each dimension of running a mission-critical organization: strategy, crisis response, governance, finance, team-building, communication, and more. Nobody is expected to read it start to finish. The point is to open the playbook that matches this week's actual problem -- and every playbook follows the same rhythm, so once you know how to use one, you know how to use all twelve.

Topics, deliverables, and field application

Each playbook covers the core concepts for that domain, written for someone already leading, not someone learning management theory for the first time. But the concepts aren't the point -- the deliverables are: a strategic plan template, a crisis communication checklist, a decision matrix, a performance improvement plan. Short field-application notes throughout translate each concept into something to actually do this week, not just think about.

Where it stands right now

Playbooks One and Two -- Executive Leadership Foundations and Strategic Leadership -- are complete. The remaining ten are in active development. The Founding Bundle locks in the full twelve-playbook set at its current price while the rest are being finished, rather than waiting for the complete toolkit to charge full price for content that's only half built.

This same philosophy -- built by someone who's actually done the job -- is what's behind the leadership cohort for airport police executives specifically. See Why Airport Police Executives Have Never Had a Leadership Program Built for Them.
